Mark Dundore (ASCAP) is an emerging composer originally from the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. His work includes repertoire in both the vocal and instrumental media, and he is always looking for new challenges and opportunities in the field. A teaching artist, Mark specializes in sight-reading, ear-training, respiratory technique, music theory, and comprehensive musicianship; he believes that all students are "musicians-in-training" whose coursework should contain all of the above to ensure success.
Mark is on staff at Trez Music Education Center in Mechanicsburg, where he specializes in low brass, piano, composition, and music theory. He is active as an instrumentalist with several groups in the area, currently serving as Principal Tuba of both the Central Pennsylvania Symphony and the West Shore Symphony Orchestra. You can also see him direct the Hand Chime Choir in his role as Assistant Director of Music at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Mechanicsburg. In addition, Mark is an active pit orchestra musician, available for hire. His prior credits in the mid-state include work with the instrumental ensembles at Messiah College and Dickinson College, two years as an instructor at The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center, and most recently blowing the tuba and harmonica in the late eclectic indie band, St. John’s Dilemma.
Mark is a 2011 Cum Laude graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition. He studied composition with Daniel Perlongo and David Martynuik, piano with Judith Radell and Anastasia Antonacos, tuba with Zach Collins, and conducting with Jack Stamp, Jason Worzbyt, and Christopher Thomas. He pursued additional coursework in Composition at Rowan University, studying under Denis DiBlasio and Bruce Yurko, while providing recorders, crumhorns, sackbut, and vocals in the Rowan University Collegium Musicum. During this time, Mark served as Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church of Glassboro, as well as Instructor of Piano and Voice at Old Towne Music, and Bb Bass in the Atlantic Brass Band. Composers in whose master classes Mark has participated include Eric Ewazen, Frank Ticheli, Drew Hemenger, Stephen Michael Newby, Oystein Baadsvik, and Jim Self. He has premiered works for both vocal and instrumental ensembles, and is a member of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA), Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz, Susquehanna Folk Music Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
